Rome, the capital of Italy, is a large cosmopolitan city with an artistic, architectural, and cultural history that has influenced the entire world and dates back nearly 3,000 years. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum testify to the power of the ancient Roman Empire. The Vatican City, seat of the Catholic Church, is home to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.

FLORENCE

Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of the most famous sights is the Duomo, the cathedral with its tiled dome designed by Brunelleschi and Giotto’s bell tower. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays Michelangelo’s David, while the Uffizi Gallery houses Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus and Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation.

RAVENNA
2 nights – 3 days
Ravenna is a city in Emilia-Romagna known for the colorful mosaics that adorn many of the buildings in its historic center, such as the octagonal Basilica of San Vitale, the 6th-century Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, and the cross-shaped Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. North of the center is the Mausoleum of Theodoric, built in the 6th century for King Theodoric the Great, a circular Gothic stone funerary building with a monolithic dome.

VENICE-MESTRE

Venice, the capital of the Veneto region, is nestled on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. This city has no streets, only canals, including the Grand Canal, lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. In the central square, Piazza San Marco, stand the Basilica di San Marco, adorned with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile di San Marco, from which you can admire the city’s red roofs.

TURKEY
ISTANBUL
4 nights – 5 days
Istanbul is one of Turkey’s largest cities, straddling Europe and Asia on the Bosphorus Strait. Its old city reflects the cultural influences of the many empires that have ruled here. In the Sultanahmet district, the open-air Roman Hippodrome was the site of chariot races for centuries, and an Egyptian obelisk was also erected here. The famous Byzantine mosque of Hagia Sophia features a 6th-century dome and precious Christian mosaics.
